Turbo-Lube XL
Date: May 02,2010
Well Name / Area: Milton #26 – 5H
Rig: H&P 23
Operator: Noble Energy
Total Depth: 10,200’
Problem Interval: 10,200’
Mud Type / Weight: 8.9 OBM
Hole Size: 8 .875
Problem Encountered: The operator was experiencing serious drag coming off the bottom of the hole before making their curve. The penetration rate on sliding had decreased to 3-6 ft/hour.
Prior Application: The mud company was running cedar fiber and nut plug for losses until the penetration rate decreased dramatically.
Product Application: Added 110 gallons of Turbo-Lube to 70 bbls of the 8.9 OBM (system mud). The operator will pump this mixture in 10 bbl sweeps.
Results: After pumping the first 10 bbl sweep containing Turbo-Lube, the operator saw and increase in the penetration rate on their slide to 23 feet/hour and never falling below 18 ft/hour. Turbo-Lube was extremely helpful in increasing the penetration rate and reducing torque and drag for the operator. (Were having 30,000 in over-pull that was reduced to 1,000).
Turbo-Lube XL
Date: February 15, 2003
Well Name / Area: Freeman Unit # 1H / Wildcat Field / Grimes County, Texas
Rig: Nabors 775
Operator: Stroud Oil Properties
Total Depth: 19,761'
Problem Interval: Lateral Interval
Mud Type / Weight: Tite Hole
Hole Size: Tite Hole
Problem Encountered: While attempting to slide and drill, the drill pipe was having trouble sliding and the ROP needed to be increased to meet expected ROP for the lateral interval.
Product Application: Turbo Lube XL was prepared in the slugging pit in a pill formulation [90 bbls of fluid and (1) drum of Turbo Lube XL] and pumped down hole. The % of Turbo Lube XL was 1 ½ %. The pill was pumped in 20 bbl increments.
Results: The operator was able to continue sliding and drilling without any problems and reached the TD objective of the lateral section. Lateral section length [6200’].
Remarks: Turbo Lube XL was awarded this well due to its performance on the last well.
Turbo-Lube XL
Date: September 7, 1994
Well Name / Area: Indianola Federal #24-1, Utah County, Utah
Rig: Parker Drilling 223
Operator: Hunt Oil Co
Total Depth: 10,200'
Problem Interval: 2,400’-TD
Mud Type / Weight: 9.6 ppg PHPA-Easy Mud
Hole Size: 8.5
Problem Encountered: The operator was experiencing severe torque and drag. The torque was stalling out the top drive and the drag was 100,000-170,000 over string weight. This led to a severe dog leg at the kick off point around 3,200’. The hole angle was 22E. This area was known for highly abrasive sand sections. The string weight at the initial application was 180,000. Torque was greater than 23,300 ft/lbs and stalling. It was necessary to back ream through the key-seat in order to POOH.
Prior Application: None. TCI will be the only product used till TD.
Product Application: TCI mixed a 100 bbl pill containing 15 ppb Premium Seal Fine with 3% Turbo-Lube XL. The pill was swept around and the pipe was reciprocated as the pill was leaving the bit. The pill was then pumped up to the area of the key-seat prior to pulling out of the hole
Results: The Drilling Foreman, Directional Driller and Driller commented that the application worked great and decided that they would maintain the sweeping program with the intent of building a 2% Turbo-Lube XL system concentration with daily sweeps for maintenance. This program was the initial remediation/application on this well and the only one needed.
