SYN-Seal® / Case History

SYN-Seal

Date: March 05,2008
Well Name / Area: S/L N2SW4#1
Rig: Noble – Joe Alford
Operator: Seneca Resources
Total Depth: 13,056’
Problem Interval: Depleted sands @ 11,760’ and 12,125’.
Mud Type / Weight: 16.4 ppg OBM
Casing: 9⅝ @ 11,016
Hole Size: 8”

Problem Encountered: The operator assumed depleted sands at the depths of 11,760’ and 12,125’.

Prior Application: 15 ppb ex-cal and 5 ppb graphite (fine) in the active system and used in sweep regiment.

Product Application: The system was treated with 6 ppb of SYN-Seal and sweeps that consisted of 15 ppb SYN-Seal + 10 ppb Premium Seal Regular.

Results: The operator was able drill through problem sands with no losses, run logs and run casing at desired depth.

SYN-Seal

Date: April 15, 2008
Well Name / Area: UPA-06
Rig: Mermaid Tender#1
Operator: Hess Indonesia Pangkah
Total Depth: 8,286’’
Problem Interval: 7,658’-8,286’
Mud Type / Weight: 5% KCL Polymer/ 9.4ppg
Casing: 9 5/8” @ 7,658’
Hole Size: 12 ¼” X 8 ½” OH

Problem Encountered: While in the Kujung Formation, the operator attempted to run 9 5/8” CSG to TD but Set CSG high due to tight hole conditions and could not reach TD. While drilling high ECD’s in +12.6ppg MWE range were experienced due to the large amount of LCM in the mud system. Problems with low ROP of 4” per/hr, high torque & stuck pipe were also experienced.

Prior Application: The 12 ¼” open hole section was drilled using Calcium Carbonate fine/medium, Soltex, Barablok, & Fracseal F in the system while pumping Hi-WT sweeps for hole cleaning.

Product Application: TurboChem International Inc recommended treating the system with 7ppb of SYN-Seal and pumping 30 bbls sweeps, containing 10ppb SYN-Seal, every connection while washing through the residual 12 ¼” hole and drilling the 8 ½” hole.

Results: The operator followed the Turbo-Chem recommendation. Some tight areas were seen in the previously drilled 12 ¼” section, but after washing and reaming, and pumping 30bbl sweeps containing 10ppb SYN-Seal the conditions improved. The 8 ½” pilot hole was successfully drilled from 7,915 to 8,826 with no losses, good ROP’s, no high torque or stuck pipe tendency’s in the Tubang Carbonate formation. The low concentration of SYN-Seal also helped maintain significantly lower ECD’s ranging from 10.4 ppg MWE to 10.7 ppg MWE. The SYN-Seal sweeps aided significantly in hole cleaning.

Turbo-Lube XL

Date: December 20, 2007
Well Name / Area: Kurnia 1 / South Medura
Rig: DATI 253
Operator: South Medura Exploration Company (SMEC)
Total Depth: 3,350’
Problem Interval: Sloughing Shale
Mud Type / Weight: 16.7 Phro-Drill
Casing: 9⅝’’ @ 3,004’
Hole Size: 8.5”

Problem Encountered: Lost circulation reduced the hydrostatic and allowed the shale to fall in. Due to this sloughing shale, swabbing occurred when POOH and a lost circulation pill could not be spotted in the open hole. Logs also could not be run due to the well falling/closing in.

Prior Application: Sweeps containing the mud company’s lost circulation material (CaCO3 + Nut Plug + Frac Seal + Unicarb – C + UniSeal) were unsuccessful.

Product Application: Mixed an 80 bbl pill containing 25 ppb SYN-Seal + 6 ppb Premium Seal Regular. Pump 80 bbl Turbo-Chem pill down the drill string, displace to the bit and pump 5 bbls out to the annulus. Pumped and POOH to the 9 ⅝” shoe @ 3,004’ – pumping out @ 50 gpm and 450 psi. Continued to POOH to surface, with no problems.

Results: After spotting and circulating above the TCI pill, affecting a soft squeeze, the operator was able to rig up and run wire-line logs to TD, for the first time, with no problems. The operator was very pleased with the results and contributed the success of running logs to Turbo-Chem’s SYN-Seal/Premium Seal sweeps
