SwelLCM / E Z Squeeze
Date: June 27, 2002
Well Name / Area: Smith Heirs #1 / Abbeville Field / Vermilion Parish, LA
Rig: Rowan 35
Total Depth: 16,379'
Problem Interval: 16,135' - 16,379'
Mud Type / Weight: WBM / 16.5 ppg
Hole Size: 4 1/2"
Casing: 5 1/2" / 16,135'
Problem Encountered: While drilling at 16,379' with a mud weight of 16.9 ppg, complete returns were lost. A conventional 100 bbl LCM pill was pumped without success.
Product Application: With the bit at the shoe, a total of 50 bbls of 16.9 ppg SwelLCM, followed by 75 bbls of 16.9 ppg E Z Squeeze was pumped to the bit. The well was shut in and all 50 bbls of the SwelLCM and 35 bbls of E Z Squeeze was pumped into the formation with an ending casing pressure of 500 psi. While holding pressure on the well for 3.5 hours, the casing pressure increased to 925 psi.
Results: The drill string was pulled out of the hole and the MWD tool was removed from the BHA. Drilling resumed without further losses.
SwelLCM / E Z Squeeze
Date: March 17, 2003
Well Name / Area: Laterre 27-2 / West Lake Decade/ Terrebonne Parish, LA.
Rig: Transocean 48
Total Depth: 16,860'
Problem Interval: 14,401’ – 60’ below Shoe
Mud Type / Weight: 17.6 ppg Low Lime (WBM)
Hole Size: 6 1/2"
Problem Encountered: Attempting to wash down into open hole; although the losses were thought to be up the hole returns were lost @ 14,726’. Ninety-seven (97) BBLS of water were required to fill the backside.
Product Application: Mixed 50 BBLS SwelLCM (1 Defoamer, 5 sx Sulfamic Acid, 63 pails SwelLCM), and 100 BBLS EZ Squeeze (2 Defoamer, 12 EZ Thin, 200 sx EZ Squeeze). The pills were then displaced to the bit and the annular preventer was shut. Forty-three (43) BBLS of SwelLCM and 60 BBLS of EZ Squeeze were bullheaded into the formation. The SwelLCM was allowed 2 hours to react, prior to commencing with the hesitation squeeze.
Results: The hesitation squeeze reached a final casing pressure of 775psi and was held for 2 hours. Seventy plus (70+) BBLS were then circulated out the annulus. Circulated bottoms up @ 30spm, with high gas content. Circulated until gas diminished and mud weight was normal. A slight bridge was found at the shoe while washing and reaming back to bottom. The well was completely washed and reamed to bottom with no further losses. A liner was run completing this interval.
SwelLCM / E Z Squeeze
Date: September 30, 2002
Well Name / Area: Samano #36 / Wildcat Field / Starr County, TX
Rig: Grey Wolf #93
Total Depth: 9,505'
Problem Interval: 6,694'
Mud Type / Weight: OBM / 16.4 ppg
Hole Size: 7 5/8"
Casing: 5' / 9,505'
Problem Encountered: Upon completion of cementing top of liner, tripped in the hole to drill out cement. While testing the 5” liner, pressure was unable to be attained. The top of the liner was taking mud @ 800psi (pump pressure).
Product Application: Mixed 75 bbls E Z Squeeze, spotted 60 bbls as a balanced plug @ top of 5” liner. Hole took 19 bbls while spotting slurry. Picked up Kelly, closed Hydril and pumped 2.18 bbls and waited 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, pumped 1.18 bbls and pressure began to increase, held for 1 hour. After 1-hour wait, pumped .78 bbls, pressure increased to desired level, held for 2 hours. There was a slight pressure decrease after 2 hours, held for another 2 hours. Once pressure was held for 4 hours, 23 stands were pulled and any remaining E Z Squeeze was circulated out. Went in hole to drill out.
Results: Drilled out top of liner. Tested to desired equivalent of 19.2 ppg. 1520psi on the Casing and 1680psi Drill Pipe.
