Premium Seal

Date: June 24, 1998
Well Name / Area: Trahan #1 S/T / Ridge Field
Rig: Nabors 73
Total Depth: 12,400'
Problem Interval: 11,413’
Mud Type / Weight: Spersene / Tannathin – 15.2 ppg
Hole Size: 6.5"

Problem Encountered: Complete loss of returns occurred while drilling through depleted sand.

Product Application: 50 bbl pill consisting of 15 ppb Premium Seal Coarse and 15 ppb Premium Seal Fine was spotted across problem sand and allowed to heal hole for 6 hours. While new BHA was made up, annulus was filled with water until hole remained static.

Results: Water was circulated from backside while staging back to bottom. Full returns were established and drilling was resumed.

Remarks: Preventive sweeps of 25 bbl (15 ppb Premium Seal Coarse, 15 ppb Premium Seal Fine) were continued as needed to TD. Premium Seal proved to be effective in curing complete loss of returns averting cement or sidetrack operations.
Premium Seal / Turbo Phalt

Date: November 8, 2000
Well Name / Area: E.T. Neuhaus #2/Providence City Field/Lavaca County, TX
Rig: H&P 73
Total Depth: 13,300' MD
Problem Interval: 10,224’ / 13,300’
Mud Type / Weight: Oil Base
Hole Size: 8 1/2"

Problem Encountered: The major objective for this interval was to eliminate a drilling liner. The drill out mud weight was 15.0 ppg and increased to 16.6 ppg by the interval TD. There were eleven depleted sands to drill, some of which had a ?P as high as ±5,000 psi.

Product Application: The 9 5/8” casing was displaced with 15.0 ppg oil based mud. Treated mud system with 5 ppb Premium Seal Fine and 4 ppb Turbo Phalt. The system concentration was maintained by pumping 10 bbl sweeps every connection, containing 5.5 ppb Premium Seal Fine, 2.5 ppb Premium Seal Coarse, and 5 ppb Turbo Phalt.

Results: This interval was successfully drilled to 13,300’ with no mud losses. Cement job resulted in 100% returns. HtHp was reduced from 6 to 1.2 cc’s after addition of Turbo Phalt. PPT was reduced from 30.0 to 4.0 cc’s.

Remarks: The Premium Seal Coarse, Premium Seal Fine, and Turbo Phalt provided the proper particle size distribution necessary to seal the depleted sands. By eliminating the drilling liner Newfield saved a minimum of $400,000.00.
Premium Seal

Date: May 5, 1998
Well Name / Area: OCSG 5863 #A-2 / Mississippi Canyon Block 686
Rig: Transocean George Richardson
Total Depth: 22,082'
Problem Interval: 15,000’ – 17,500’
Mud Type / Weight: Synthetic / 13.5 ppg
Hole Size: 9 7/8” Bi Center

Problem Encountered: Drilled out from the 9 5/8” casing. Expected to have to increase mud weight .5 ppg higher than previous wells. Wanted a preventive approach to losing expensive synthetic.

Product Application: Added 5 ppb Premium Seal Fine to system while drilling out shoe. Mixed 400 bbl Premium Seal Coarse at 20 ppb in reserve and pumped 2 50 bbl sweeps per day. Also added 240 sacks Premium Seal Fine per day to maintain concentrations.

Results: No mud was lost while drilling the interval. Shell ran MDT and results were excellent. Cores indicated no formation damage.

Remarks: The operator commented that this filtercake was deposited quickly therefore there were no damages to the formation.
Premium Seal / Turbo Phalt

Date: June 27th, 1999
Well Name / Area: E.P.N.G #11 / Live Oak County, TX
Rig: #50
Total Depth: 7,900'
Problem Interval: Queen City Sand (±6,000')
Mud Type / Weight: Oil Mud / 13.4 ppg
Hole Size: 8 3/4"

Problem Encountered: Queen City Sand possibly depleted creating differential pressure of ± 7000 PSI. Lost returns and tight hole conditions experienced on offset well.

Product Application: At ± 5,000’, a system treatment containing 4 ppb Turbo Phalt and 5 ppb Premium Seal Fine was added to provide deformable and malleable particles designed to seal sand sections. Ten bbl sweeps containing 5 ppb Premium Seal Fine, 5 ppb Premium Seal Coarse, and 5 ppb Turbo Phalt were pumped every 100’ while drilling the Queen City Sand package.

Results: No mud loss, tight hole conditions or stuck pipe occurred while drilling this section of hole.

Remarks: A preventive approach along with good well planning utilizing Premium Seal Fine and Turbo Phalt proved to be very effective in drilling the Queen City Sand package trouble free.
